“Water Wonderland” license plates are making a comeback and we couldn’t be more excited! Did you know that “Water Wonderland” was Michigan’s very first license plate slogan? It was used from 1954 to 1964 until the slogan changed to “Water-Winter Wonderland” in 1965.
Today, you can now find both slogans gracing license plates across Michigan! While the blue and yellow “Winter-Water Wonderland” plates returned in 2021, the green and white “Water Wonderland” plates were just reissued this year.
“People demanded it and it has a historic nature to it,” said Cheri Hardmon, spokesperson for the department, in a Bridge Michigan article. “We had people asking for it. It's just that simple.”
There is no doubt that Michigan is a water wonderland year-round. It’s a consistent and reliable truth that the Kamps family fell in love with. And that is exactly how Wonderland Tire got its name! Founded in 1978, Wonderland Tire was named by its founders Bill, Henry, and Earl Kamps after the iconic slogans, and we can’t think of a more fitting name!
