Start Your Engines! A Few Tips to Help You Keep Your Tires in Excellent Condition

Did you know that vehicle neglect costs the U.S. economy upwards of $2 billion every year? It can be tough to keep up on car maintenance sometimes, but it’s one of those things that you should never put off. This is especially true when it comes to your tires.

Your tires are your car’s only point of contact with the road. They’re what help you stop, go, and ultimately how your car gets from point A to point B. So it makes sense that you should take great care of them. If you’re unsure about where to start when it comes to tire maintenance, here are a few tips that should help you get on the road and stay there for a long time to come.

Check Your Air Pressure Frequently

Your car should have air pressure specifications printed either on a door label or in the user manual. Regardless of where these instructions are, you should definitely follow them. If your tires aren’t holding the correct amount of air pressure, then your engine will have to work harder to make them rotate. This will cause them to wear down faster than they would have otherwise. Filling them is simple! Most gas stations have air pumps specifically for that purpose.

Check the Tread

After tire pressure comes tire tread. Retreading used tires is possible, but you should focus on the wheels your car has first. A good DIY method to test your tread is to use a quarter. If the tread covers George Washington’s hairline when the quarter is placed upside-down in the tread, then you’re good to go. If the tread doesn’t read George’s hairline, then it may be time for replacements.

Rotation, Rotation

Getting your wheels rotated is extremely important. This is a great way to ensure that all four tires wear down evenly and that two aren’t completely bald before the others catch u[. In addition, you should make sure to change out your normal wheels for snow tires in the winter to ensure that you can safely get where you need to go.

Keeping your car healthy is just another way of keeping yourself and your family healthy and safe. Make sure you follow these tips to get a longer, safer live out of your vehicle.
