Off-Road Adventures to be had in Michigan

As we reach late summer, most of us have been taking advantage of longer days and sunny skies by getting out and enjoying it. With so many warm-weather weekends, we might be starting to seek new kinds of adventure that don’t involve sitting on the beach or hiking our favorite trails. Did you know that Michigan is home to many trails specifically for enjoying your off-road vehicles? From wooded trails to river routes, there are endless adventures to be had this summer. Here are some of the standout choices:

Silver Lake State Park

Nestled between beach towns, Muskegon and Ludington, Silver Lake State Park occupies 3,000-acres along the shoreline and boasts 2,000-acre dunes that divide Lake Michigan and Silver Lake. The 450-acre off-road trail cuts through the dunes along the water. Blaze your way through the natural vegetation and climb to the top for views you won’t forget. You can even camp here and enjoy the beach after your drives are done!

Devils Lake Route

Devil’s Lake lies two miles inland from Lake Huron. This large shallow lake crosses through Negwagon State Park into Alpena County in Northeast Michigan. Off-roaders can experience a sandy eight and a half mile route through large boulders that has earned this trail the moniker “Stonehenge.”

Drummond Island

For a rugged route, test out some of the 117 miles of looping trails on Drummond Island. This trail has everything from meadows, to forests, to rock, all at varying elevations. Unique views of ridges carved during the last Ice Age provide a scenic back drop for your adventure. When you enter the forest, which has grown through glacial rock deposits, you’ll hear a distant echo from under your tires. That’s the shale rock from what once was a beach, now buried deep in the woods.

Michigan’s varying terrain gives off-roaders the chance to experience everything. Durable yet flexible tires will give you a safe, smooth ride. Make sure your OTR (off the road) tires are in great condition to take on the trails. Visit one of our Wonderland locations and we’ll take a look at your tires to ensure that you’re all set.
